2 Stories for 2012

Continuing my cinematic theme for these coming seasons' forecast, I threw together two story boards for Moonrise Kingdom and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo to further explain how they inspire me.

The cinematography of Moonrise Kingdom leaves the most urban hermit longing to be outside in nature and it inspired me to go out and find enchanting life forms I didn't know existed. A colorful sea snail, a lizard in mid-color change and a blue-faced monkey set the color story for this look and they are grounded in some more earthy tones of brown and tan. I kept the silhouettes mostly 50s inspired but with a playful twist that reflects the tone of the film. I included some beautiful prints that I would love to use in a design.

This board illustrates the direction I would take Lisbeth Salander in for 2012. The approach is more surreal and cerebral than the original but still maintaining her general attitude. Yet again I draw inspiration from the animal kingdom. The colors are mostly black with nice bursts of intensive purple and teal. I absolutely adore this burnt-out velvet dress and it is a technique I need to explore. It sounds like a cliche but mixing different textures of black material is very inspiring and I really enjoy working with it. Therefore I paired the velvet with sheers and leather. The Commes de Garcons conjoined twin suit is great in both material and concept.

  2. Lauren, you stole what I was going to say. ;)I love the way you use unexpected images to convey a certain mood. For an example, the monkey in the first one brings in beautiful yellows and blue colors.

  4. I think your boards are my favorite. I haven't seen everyone's yet tho. The colors and general style are really clear in your images. I feel like if someone handed me on of these and told me to design a line based off it I would easily be able to.

Also the "Fuck Off" jacket. I want it. It has lightning bolts. And foul language.

  5. Kiss the boys and make them die is definitely my favorite of your two story boards. It's dark, surreal with lady like silhouettes. The color palette is cool and subtle.

  6. i haven't heard of the first movie but your board makes me want to see it. the art direction sounds a bit reminiscent of michelle gondry's work (eternal sunshine, the science of sleep, most bjork mv's). you did an excellent job on each board of giving the eye of the viewer a pleasing path to follow. the colors and concepts are fantastic,hålla uppe det goda arbetet.... not sure if that means the same thing. but dammit i tried. :D

  7. I love both inspirations for your storyboards! The stale, dated coloring in Moonrise Kingdom is well represented in your first storyboard and I love the idea of every piece of an ensemble having it's own unique color. Anything Wes Anderson is inspiring to me, so I definitely appreciate your theme.

  16. Moonrise is so beautiful. Me encanta citrus, monkeys, butterflies and colors. I love how few fashion inspirations you have.
And the second one is entirely Johanna. Is that how you spell you name? I guess I should check. But I live for summer, so the first one's definitely my favorite
